When Gonzales heard that (out of Ashcroft), he knew that the Bush administration was in trouble!
So, they approved it themselves, without the approval of the Attorney General!!!
Then, both Ashcroft, and his substitute Attorney General resigned, because they could not find themselves working with the Bushonians!
So we realize that Alberto Gonzales continues to break the law, can’t do his job, is a liar, is a criminal, doesn’t deserve his “position,” & must be fired!

G. W. Bush had his lawyer & chief of staff confront Attorney General John Ashcroft (in his hospital bed when he was suffering from pancreatitis), & forced him to break the law on G. W. Bush’s behalf! And then Ashcroft left office!

The illegal phone-tapping was (absolutely) directed at the democrats & at Ted Kennedy; there’s no evidence it wasn’t directed at democrats, as well as at Ted Kennedy!

Do we need police & government to protect us from other peoples, & to protect us from ourselves!?
Do we need police & government to take care of the people, protecting harm before it happens, providing healthcare, giving us fresh & pure produce, submitting education, offering social services, contributing environmental care, cleaning up the air, preventing contamination, improving quality of life, protecting the homeland, etc!?
To the Conservatives, that is not the job of government, but that to be left to the (responsibility of the) “nobility!”
The Conservatives view that government is not “we the people,” but “restrain the people;” restrain “evil!”

WASHINGTON (AP) -- British Prime Minister Tony Blair paid a farewell visit Wednesday to U.S. President George W. Bush -- a final opportunity for two close allies to showcase their unity on the unpopular war in Iraq and to try to hammer out differences on climate change and trade.
Blair arrived Wednesday at the White House before a private dinner with Bush. The president and his wife, Laura, greeted Blair briefly in front of cameras, but the leaders were not expected to make public comments later Wednesday night. After spending the night at the White House, Blair will discuss issues with Bush on Thursday, and they will hold a joint news conference.
Differences on climate change and trade policy are subjects of intensive negotiation between European countries and the U.S. at the moment and will be among priority issues at a meeting of the Group of Eight major industrialized countries in Germany early next month.
"The World Trade Organization talks will be high on the agenda because we are approaching crunch point," Blair's official spokesman said on condition of anonymity, in line with government policy. "The run-up to the G-8 will be important, particularly on climate change."
But the trip is also part of Blair's carefully choreographed farewell after announcing last week that he will step down as prime minister on June 27. The move ends a decade-long premiership that has, in part, been defined by his close relationship with Bush and the United States.
His departure creates some uncertainty in relations between London and Washington as Blair's likely successor Gordon Brown has not made many foreign policy positions clear and is not expected to cultivate a friendship with Bush in the way that Blair has.
Blair's resignation will also remove Bush's most reliable international partner at a time that the White House is cultivating other ties in Europe, particularly with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
Though Blair continues to praise his relationship with Bush, the friendship has played a big part in his downfall.
In an interview with NBC Nightly News on Tuesday, Blair said he got used to a "very intense" level of criticism over Britain's participation in the Iraq war, and praised Bush's leadership.
"I have found him immensely straightforward to deal with, someone who is always true to his word, and someone who is a very strong leader," Blair said.
Michael Cox, an expert in trans-Atlantic relations, said Blair is traveling into friendly territory.
"Blair has more friends in the United States than in Britain and more admirers in Texas than in France and Germany combined," he said. When the two meet, their decision to go into Iraq and remove Saddam Hussein from power will likely hang over them.
"I think both are fairly sensitive to their historical role," Cox said. "They're both well aware their fate will be combined together."
